Student Support Team (SST)
The Student Support Team provides teachers and other staff with ideas, interventions, techniques and support which will:

  • Help prevent social and emotional problems from interfering with learning.
  • Help prevent regular education students from being inappropriately placed in special education.
  • Help maintain special education students in the least restrictive environment as far as services and placements.
The Child Study Team
Sometimes children need extra help in the classroom.

Any parent who would like this help for their child should discuss their concerns with the classroom teacher, who can make specific recommendations or referrals.

In some cases, a referral for special education and/or services may be necessary. Parents, teachers, or other individuals who are concerned about a child can contact the Child Study manager for more specific information about qualifying for services. The manager is responsible for assuring that each child who qualifies will receive a free and appropriate public education.

The Child Study Team is made up of teachers, other professionals and the parent of the child. The team is responsible for the admission of students who qualify into special education, review the student's progress and for appropriate dismissal of children from special education and related services.

Parent Liaison
Under the direction of the school principal, Title I provides a parent liaison to the school, who is responsible for involving parents in their children's school experience. The parent liaison:
  • Conducts home visits.
  • Establishes a Title I Advisory Board, a parent compact and making Title I information available to parents.
  • Works with teachers and the community in carrying out the educational goals of the school.
  • Provides opportunities for parents to attend training sessions at the system wide parent resource center.
  • Develops parent education workshops and others relating to Baltimore City Public School policy.

The parent liaison at City Springs is involved in:

  • Family Fun Nights
  • Coffee Chats
