The Philosophy of City Springs
City Springs School supports the mission of the Baltimore City Public School System, which is to create a pathway of successful learning for all students by providing meaningful and challenging educational and cultural experiences that enrich students intellectually, socially, morally and emotionally.
We believe that all students have talents and can learn through a variety of instructional experiences that will help them to develop their vocational, cultural and leisure pursuits. These experiences should enable students to be contributing members in a diverse society, to apply the critical thinking skills and functional skills necessary to perform in an increasingly complex, technological society, to develop skills of leadership and fellowship, to develop an appreciation for the cultural differences among themselves and other members of society, and to develop their individual and collective talents.
We also believe that all students have individual uniqueness, which should be addressed through in-school and extracurricular programs that develop and foster self-esteem, self-motivation and success.
We further believe that the home and community should contribute to the total development of our students and these stakeholders will have input in our school programs and professional activities.
We realize that we can move toward these goals by addressing the needs of our students. Their needs fall into these categories: attendance and academic achievement. These categories are part of the data based areas and standards established by the Maryland State Board of Education to help schools examine their instructional programs and to help assure quality instruction and success for all students through school improvement efforts. Additionally, each student needs to work in a classroom that exemplifies the best in learning and human relations, a place where each student will find success and meet high expectations in the areas of academic performance and citizenship.
